Morality and Art of the Classical Era I am going to be talking about a few different paintings from the Classical Era that I think show morality through the pieces. I think that some pieces just get looked at but not really understood fully, so I am going to show how these artworks show morality. Starting off with The Oath of Horatii . The Oath of Horatii by Jacques-Louis David 1784. The Oath of Horatii was painted by Jacques-Louis David in 1784 in Rome. In this painting " It depicts a scene from the story of the Horatii and Curiatii , a Roman legend about a seventh-century BC dispute between two warring cities, Rome and Alba Longa , [ 2 ] and stresses the importance of patriotism and masculine self-sacrifice for one's country. Instead of the two cities sending their armies to war, they agree to choose three men from each city; the victor in that fight will be the victorious city.
